Patterson-UTI. provides onshore contract drilling services to exploration and production companies in North America. The Company has approximately 350 marketable land-based drilling rigs that operate primarily in oil and natural gas producing regions of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and western Canada.
Over the past 4 years, Patterson-UTI has refurbished over 80 rigs. Among a fleet of many others, these rigs are now what we call “Fit for Purpose Rigs”. Patterson-UTI has invested $1.7 Billion in New and Upgraded Equipment from 2005 thru 2008 including:
- $210 Million on new APEX 1500 Rig Systems
- $180 Million on state of the art APEX Walking Rig Systems
- $335 Million on other new & like-new rigs and refurbs
- $280 Million on top drives, triplex pump packages, iron roughnecks & high efficiency mud systems
- $265 Million on drill pipe & other tubulars
